Community Woodland at Fintry Bay

The economy of Cumbrae is based on Tourism, which by its nature is seasonal and weather dependent  For some time IOCICC has been investigating the feasibility of developing a community woodland as a social enterprise, providing year round facilities for education, training, recreation, mountain biking and biomass development. An initial exploration of the benefits of biofuels and PV panels in connection with the proposed development grew into a wider more holistic examination of other forms of renewable energy generation, in particular wind and hydro. It is clear that what the island needs is a comprehensive Renewables Strategy which is consistent with one of the key aims of the Islands Development Plan which is to develop Cumbrae as a Green Island.
